The Position:


  • We are currently recruiting for a full time Purchasing Assistant for our Ballymena Head Office Purchase Department


Location: Ballymena


Hours: 35 hours per week between the hours of 09:00 -- 17:30 Monday to Friday


Job Role:


  • The purpose of the role will be to carry out duties to assist with the maintaining of a high level of availability at all times while adding value to the Purchase Department. The Purchasing Assistant will be responsible for learning company purchasing policies and procedures required to deliver effective company operations. 


The main duties and responsibilities for the role will be:


  • General Purchase duties i.e. Placing orders, checking stock, communicating with Suppliers and Branches, chasing outstanding orders and responding to and dealing with queries, stock requests etc.
  • Producing and analysing reports, importing and exporting of Excel files.
  • Stock Management, including developing and monitoring a process for measuring supply inventory against requirements, this will include analysing stock movements and profiles and adjusting levels accordingly while taking into account measures such as, lost sales, back orders, stock cleanses etc.
  • Updating and maintaining a pricing structure that keeps us competitive in the market place while generating sufficient profit for the business.
  • Assisting the purchasing team with additional duties within the department when required.



  • To be successful in this role, you will need a good level of IT skills and have excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Training will be provided – Initially the Job will focus on routine processes and then with growing confidence and experience the successful candidate will with further training progress to the more advanced areas of stock management and analysis.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

Essential Criteria:


  • Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable outlook to deliver a high level of customer service.
  • GCSE Maths and English.
  • Good Communication and organisational skills.
  • Good Numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Be self-motivated, with the ability to work within a team or independently on projects and meet deadlines when required.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge (this role involves the use of Excel, Word and Email)       


Desirable Criteria:


  • Previous experience in a purchasing role
  • Proven history of effective supply management
